Welcome

PCOS- The Causes.

Why Is This Happening?

As you know there must be a cause to all of this hectic madness. Please take a second to read this info, as you need to understand why a bit better, as medical language i feel can sometimes be a complete different language to the average Jane.

Now, as a female you will know that hormones dominate our bodies. Sometimes these hormones, decide that they're just too lazy to do their jobs anymore and take a seat, and then pandora has been let loose out of the box. Get my gist?!. All it is really, is that there are higher than normal levels of LH and of androgens (testosterone) and lower than normal levels of FSH and progesterone. As you know testosterone is also known as the male hormone, but this does not by any means ladies, tell us that we're going to start growing a tiny penis in the next few weeks (which i would love to see the look on my partners face if that ever came about). Testosterone is however essential to us, as it gets converted in the ovarian follicle to oestrogen to complete the menstrual cycle. Testosterone is produced within the ovaries themselves.

Now you can see why woman who produce more Testosterone than normal may suffer from symptoms such as facial hair etc. But still no sign of a penis.

Insulin resistance has been connected to PCOS. Insulin is a hormone that is created within the pancreas and regulates glucose levels in the blood, it has been suggested that insulin can be linked to PCOS as many women with PCOS have been found to have also developed insulin resistance. This means that insulin cannot work properly and therefore more is produced to compensate. It is thought that these higher than average levels of insulin can help cause hormonal imbalances.

Still however there is no complete understanding to the causes of PCOS and the hormonal imbalances relating to this.
