What Can I Do?
There is no such 'cure' to PCOS as yet. Which is bad news. However, there are many simple and easy methods that can make things easier for you and more manageable.
Infertility- As you know infertility is not always going to be the case, not all women with PCOS have infertility problems. Therefore, you should seek medical advice if in doubt. However, i have heard many stories where women have been told that they will not conceive, and they have prevailed. It is not the end of the world ladies. There is medical help to help you conceive. There is IVF and other ways around this issue, even adoption. There is always a way, so do not fret.
Acne- Doctors can prescribe you antiobiotics if you suffer from this, seek attention. There are countless products available to you in big chain stores, that use natural ingredients such as, tee tree oils. Products that put minerals back into your skin, and many are water based to help with oily patches.
Weight Gain- This can be down to lack of excercise and healthy eating. If you have tried everything and still not succeeding then you must see your GP. Otherwise, drink plenty of water at least 6-8 glasses a day, Eat your 5 a day in fruit and veg, and excercise daily for at least 10 mnutes, even if it is just a walk to the post box. If you are unsure of a healthy eating plan, then your GP can organise a plan for you, if you have joined a gym most do this too. If you are keen to get excercising, start small, such as yoga. Going to classes can help you meet new people, you coud take a friend with you or do it at home with a DVD for beginners. Excercise is good for mental health also, it makes you feel good as it gently releases hormones called endorphins, or happy hormones. Give it a try.
Hair Loss and Thinning- Try new hair products that help your hair to grow healthily, that hydrate your scalp, and can stimulate hair growth. Consult your GP. If it gets to such extremes then you could always get a wig, which are natural with real human hair, and it means you could have a new hair style every week, saving you a few bob when doing it. There is a silver lining ladies.
Hair Gain- Some PCOS sufferers may get hair gain in unexpected areas such as on the face. There are hair removal products for this, a salon can offer waxing treatments, and there are hair minimising creams on the market. If it is really bad, then speak to your GP, he may offer laser treatments that burn the hair follicles, to prevent hair from growing back, not pleasant but possibly worth it.
Irreglar periods and ovulation- These can be regulated using oral contraceptive pills, and hormonal tablets. Even a coil can regulate these.
Mood changes and Depression- First things first, you need to get out and do things you enjoy doing. Take time out, and give yourself 1 night every week for some alone time, take a hot bath and read, have a glass of wine. Go to the gym, excercise to make you feel better. Go out and meet new people, meet people online and make friends who are in the same boat as you. It makes life easier. If things are that bad then speak to your GP, they will possibly prescribe anti-depressants. If not, then you must remember that you are beautiful as you are, and you have to accept who you are, before you can help yourself! There will be days you are down, but treat yourself, in moderation of course. Try something new like, evening primrose oil, these can help moods. Consult your GP before trying any new medication. Speak to a herbalist who may be able to offer alternative medicines.
Cancer- In very rare instances that this occurs, your GP will advise you what to do next.
Diabetes- As above.
